The following is a sampling of the projects recently developed at New World
Consulting.
Digital Signal Processor
(DSP) Video Processing System
-
Designed and developed software for a custom board which uses
two TMS320C6203 DSPs. The system makes extensive use of Texas
Instruments latest tools; Code Composer Studio with DSP/BIOS and Chip
Support Library (CSL). This multi-tasking system makes full use
of the available on chip peripherals including multiple simultaneous
DMA transfers, serial port and expansion bus transfers, timers, and
numerous external hardware interrupts. A significant portion of
the effort has been devoted to code optimization. The purpose of
the system is to run proprietary video processing algorithms.
Embedded PC/104
Stabilization Platform
-
Pentium III module in a PC104 Plus form factor used to create a stable platform for an airborne
camera. It will receive attitude data from a high speed Inertial
Measurement Unit. The pitch and roll information will then be used to
drive pitch and roll motors, keeping the camera platform pointed at its
target regardless of variations in the plane’s pitch and roll.
Embedded Data Logger

Developed software for radiometric measurement system.
The embedded software will collect readings from 2 photometers and
process and store the data. The system will be used in remote
deployments for up to 3 months at a time.
Spectral Analyzer
-
Windows spectral analyzer control software. The
instrument measures heat energy optically for wavelengths from 1.4 to
14.2 µmeters. The software uses commercial off-the-shelf (COTS)
data acquisition and control PC cards to sample the detector output at
100kHz. The data is processed and adjusted for instrument
specific calibration parameters as well as atmospheric absorption
properties. Feature rich user options include an extensive
graphical interface, multiple spectral filter speeds,
gain/bandwidth/calibration parameters, and IEEE488 transmission of
data, Software includes stepper motor control, broad analytical
features, and supports user recalibration of equipment. Tabular
data is
presented and manipulated using Microsoft Excel compatible
spreadsheets from within the program.
Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Compression Algorithms

Several proprietary compression algorithms were developed for a
custom embedded DSP board. The embedded software runs on TI DSP
chips and compresses/decompresses data in real-time.
Hardware Monitoring Application
-
Windows monitor application for satellite antenna control
unit. Application continually polls several control units via a
Digiboard interface records responses on display and in a database
using Microsoft Access format.
Airborne Search & Rescue Scanner
The system uses a laser imaging device, a digital line scan
camera, and a high speed frame grabber all controlled by a Windows
2000 PC. The airborne system scans
the ground for pilots who have ejected from their aircraft. The
software controls the hardware, processes the data received from the
frame grabber, and calculates a vector to the downed pilot in
real-time.
Financial Trading System Message Logger
Application receives RS232 status messages in real-time from
financial trading system. Messages fields are parsed and sorted
according to user definable importance. Data is displayed and
also saved in a Microsoft Access database format. The program
uses SQL to allow users to run reports based on any of the message
fields. Other user options include automatic deletion of old
databases and automatic printing of reports.
Data Acquisition
Data acquisition and control software for new satellite sun
sensor development program. The software using an analog I/O
card to sample analog photoelectric sensors and then processes the
information to determine the vector to the sun. The software is
to be used as part of an onboard satellite navigation system.
Medical Imaging Scanner for Human Eye
This medical imaging device uses a laser, a digital area scan
camera, and a high speed frame grabber all controlled by a Windows
2000 PC. The scanning system scans a
human eye for macular degeneration. The software controls the
hardware, processes and displays the data received from the frame
grabber, and allows doctors to save and retrieve patient
information.
Automated Test Equipment (ATE)
Satellite earth sensor automated test equipment. PC
controlled Automated Test Equipment (ATE) utilizes a precision
multi-axis motor/encoder system. The ATE mimics the earth's
infrared emissions as seen by satellites during orbital maneuvers.
Test Procedures
Authored formal test procedures for space flight earth sensors
using custom test equipment. Procedures encompassed calibration,
functional testing, and environmental testing.
Microscope
This is an infra-red (IR) microscope used for measuring
temperature or spectral emissions of micro-targets. The
instrument is entirely controlled from the graphical user interface
(GUI).
